Is SideCar open-source?

Whether SideCar's operating system and software are open-source, and if there is an opportunity for them to be.

SideCar's software and hardware are not currently open-source. We want to ensure the best experience out of the box, and we believe allowing users to customize their device's software compromises user experience and safety.

That said, if you're concerned about the use of open-source products such as openpilot in SideCar, we are still committed to the mission of decentralized autonomous driving. When you buy a SideCar, you own the hardware. The software runs locally on your device. There's no subscription gating your access, and we can't remotely take away functionality.
